New Theme, 2008 Begin

Journal Entry: Mon Jan 7, 2008, 1:58 AM
Hi fellow photographers!

2007 has passed and I wish you all a fruitful 2008. Still, 2007 is still warm in our hearts, in the good and in the bad.

So the Theme for this new year's begin is "2007" in the sense of "best of 2007". You shall put one of the picture you liked most that you did in 2007. The guidelines, in addition to the standard rules, are simple: it must be analog and it must have been shot in 2007.

The deadline is... until the next theme gets out.
--

Please read the guidelines below, if you forgot them....

Add in a line with technicalities this time: camera and film used (I'm sure it is film: you can use only that anyway here...).

Also please post the images using the standard title: <theme name> by <artist> and mention the original title inside the description!

~multix

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Photogénique is an art group for fine art analogue photography - no digitally altered photos allowed.
We would like to gather the non-digital photographers of Deviantart and work to promote film photography.
We don't want too many members, so from now on we will not accept all film photographers as we did before. Send us a note if you'd like to join, but we'll only let you in if we find the photos in your Deviantart gallery good enough.
Each month a new theme will be chosen and you will then have one month to send us a photo on that theme. You can use your old photos, you don't have to take a new photo each month. And you don't have to submit photos on each theme. If you're busy or don't find the theme very inspiring it's better not to submit than to submit something half-hearted.
In the beginning of each new month the number of images on last month's theme will be reduced to about 20 (in case, of course, there are any more...) This is because we want our gallery to remain fairly small and easy to navigate.

Moderator of this group is: :iconmultix:

Rules for submitting photos to Photogénique:
The photo must not be taken with a digital camera. (If we allowed that we would have to allow digital darkroom as well, and we don't want to do that.)
The photo must not be digitally altered. Dust removal and cropping is ok, but no fiddling with contrast/colour balance/saturation or removal of objects/details that are actually there. (If your scanner messes up your photos you may change them back to look like the prints/negatives actually do, but don't change too much!)
All analogue techniques are welcome: hand colouring, polaroid transfer, lithography, darkroom montage...
The photo must fit into the monthly theme. You don't have to take a new photo for Photogénique especially though, old photos are ok.

How do I submit a photo?
Members log in to Photogénique's account and submit their own photos. To make it easy to see which photos are on the same theme, please name the photo exactly like this: theme by deviant (I e if Caltha submits a photo on the theme "anger" the title should be "Anger by Caltha".) "Theme" means the actual monthly theme, you may not come up with your own theme.

If a photo is digitally altered, obviously does not fit the theme, or violates the rules in any other way it will be removed without notice.
Members who deliberately break the rules will be excluded immediately. Members who accidentally break the rules but do so repeatedly will also be excluded. (Since they have obviously not bothered to read the rules.)

~SaleMK:iconSaleMK: Nov 7, 2007, 5:23:49 AM
yes that's a good idea about the 'cleaning' of inactive members

i still use film :-)

i have digital but i use it only for tourist photos

the club should have more activity like features, contests with small symbolic prizes etc.
~photogenique:iconphotogenique: Nov 7, 2007, 5:09:07 AM
indeed, let0s call it one mroe attempt. I still use film, I hope some others do?
A good thing would be to find new members but also to weed out people not really participating anymore and this kick them out. The member lsit is so long and nobody cares about here...

~photogenique:iconphotogenique: Mar 17, 2007, 6:16:57 AM
yes, unfortunately we are a bit stuck again.
~photogenique:iconphotogenique: Mar 17, 2007, 6:16:36 AM
well, you should adjust the contrast and brightness in your analog process.à You may of course use digital controls to restore the original impression of the image (be it print, film or slide) if your scanner or other digitizer needs it. It is up to your judgment to draw a line, since we cannot see the original.
~Phesarnion:iconPhesarnion: Mar 14, 2007, 9:22:55 PM
Just wondering... with regards to contrast, surely the adjustment of contrast is part of the normal printing process in a darkroom - and yet in the submission rules it is stipulated that contrast adjustments are not allowed? am I missing something?

I tried this once, and everyone just ignored it. Some people replied back saying that they have no time for the group anymore which was from the people i got replies from. Sorry. If you would like to be co-host of this group, I'll be happy to let you help out.

thanks for your comments and advice,

-Alison

nah, but sometimes we are too busy to check for new assignments. You should try to "mass note" the members about the new assignmetns. I think clatha did this. Sometimes a note in your inbox is more stimulatin... at least sometimes it is or me when I feel too busy and stressed.

Well i'd like to know from the people who seem to be in this group whether my ideas are boring or that they just dont want to do it any more...and to take them off the list.

As it seems. I've been trying to get some people involved in the group for some months now and its starting to be a tedious thing to keep up with when no one submitts or gives any advice etc.
